Domainyze uses a sophisticated system to monitor your domains for critical changes. Here's a simple breakdown of how it works:

1. Queued Checks

When you add a domain, our system schedules periodic checks based on your subscription plan and the monitoring type you've selected. These checks are placed in a queue to be processed by our network of workers.

2. RDAP and WHOIS Lookups

For each check, we perform a lookup using modern (RDAP) and traditional (WHOIS) protocols:

  • RDAP (Registration Data Access Protocol): This is our primary method. It's a newer, more structured, and more reliable way to get information about domain registrations.
  • WHOIS: If a domain's registry doesn't support RDAP, we fall back to the classic WHOIS protocol. While less structured, it still provides valuable information.

3. Data Analysis and Status Updates

Our system parses the raw data from these lookups and analyzes it for changes. We track key data points, including:

  • Availability: Is the domain registered or available?
  • Status Codes: What is the current status (e.g., ok, redemptionPeriod, pendingDelete)?
  • Expiration Date: When does the domain expire?
  • Registrar Information: Who is the current registrar?
  • Nameservers: What are the domain's nameservers?

When we detect a change, we update the domain's status in your dashboard and log the event.

4. Alerting

If you have alerts enabled for a specific status change (like a domain becoming available), our system will trigger a notification and send it to you via your configured channels (e.g., email).

This entire process happens automatically in the background, ensuring you're always up-to-date on the status of your valuable domain assets.
